Once you get some actual melt, the melt water will make the snow packier. So you might get your snowball/snowman potential.

I went without a generator until the ice storm about 10 years ago or so that knocked out power for about 4 or 5 days in the winter. Since I bought one, I have used it exactly one time. I consider it my insurance policy.

Thanks Bobby.  Everything's okay here.  We never lost power at all during
the storm or afterward.  We're just under an avalanche of snow.  The picnic 
table in my back yard is completely buried in a drift and there's another 4 ft
of snow on the actual table top part of it.  But everything else is cleared...the
driveway, front and back porches, stairs, sidewalks and the upper level of the
deck.   : )  Next though I want to shovel out a trail through the drifts down to
the barn and to the birdbaths.
