Good question. I guess peak is sort of subjective. I like it when about 90% of the leaves have changed, but there is still a little bit of green left. This is when there is the broadest  spectrum of color. Once everything has changed, it looks real nice, but the color green is missing  so there is one less color.

There are usually a few stragglers for some reason, I don't know if it's  just a particular  tree, or if certain  species turn later or what. That tree on the far right  may stay green for a while, it's one of the only trees in the are that still has so much green. By the time that tree is in full color, the other trees will probably  be bare.

That tree in the foreground with the red leaves is sort of strange too. The tips of the braches starting turning in late August, and then it  pretty  much did nothing for over  a month. But the color is starting  to fill out in the rest of the tree now.

Last week it's  been sort of warm. It's getting  cooler now, tonight temps are susupposed  to drop to the low 30's. The cooler temps should help coax things along.
